WHY replace Leaf springs?
There are several reasons to replace leaf springs:

  • Worn or sagging springs - Weak springs lower the chassis height of a vehicle, resulting in premature tire wear and poor handling characteristics.
  • Sagging when loaded - Vehicles used for family transportation, RVs, work trucks, or sales fleets can benefit from upgrading to heavier duty leaf springs.
  • Broken original springs - Certain vehicles have been known to have a very high failure rate of broken springs.

WHAT function do U-Bolts serve?
U-Bolts connect the axle to the leaf spring pack.

WHAT are the torque specifications for U-Bolts?
3/8” - 26 ft. lbs                        1-1/8" - 1131 ft. lbs.
7/16” - 44 ft. lbs                      1-1/4" - 1551 ft. lbs.
1/2" - 70 ft. lbs
9/16” - 100 ft. lbs
5/8” - 177 ft. lbs
3/4” - 313 ft. lbs
7/8” - 500 ft. lbs
1” - 1010 ft. lbs           **Tighten and torque using a diagonal cross pattern sequence.**

What is the grade and strength of U-Bolts?
We use the very best L&H threaded rod to manufacture our U-Bolts. All 3/8 through 9/16 U-Bolts are graded to meet or exceed grade 5. All 5/8” through 1 1/4” U-Bolts are graded to meet or exceed grade 8.

WHY replace U-Bolts?
We suggest replacing the U-bolts whenever they are removed from the vehicle. U-Bolts should be replaced if they are rusted, pitted, stretched, bent, or show signs of wear.

WHEN do U-Bolts need to be replaced?
We suggest that whenever the springs are removed and replaced, you should change your U-Bolts at that time. It is a relatively inexpensive insurance policy to keep your vehicle is safe.

HOW are U-Bolts inspected?
Examine each U-Bolt for stress cracks, rusting, stretching, or shiny (worn) spots.
